The Team

There are many people who work behind the scenes to keep our church running, including pastors, elders, deacons and church officers. We’d like to introduce you to some of them here….

Steve and Rachel Maylam

Steve and Rachel have been married for 16 years. They have one son Noah. Together they have served God as missionaries in the UK and abroad and also within local church leadership.

Steve is the Pastor of the church having taken over full responsibility for leading the church at the beginning of 2026. He has been teaching and preaching since 2009. With a passion for pastoral, evangelistic ministry and discipleship.

Rachel has believed in Jesus since she was a little girl, however became born again, Spirit filled in 2007. She has a strong passion for prayer, family, bible study, sharing the gospel and discipleship. Rachel is currently serving at Coffee Pot our community cafe and also as the church treasurer.

Simon and Julie Sparkes

Simon and Julie have been married for 39 years and have 2 children and 3 grandchildren. They have been serving in various areas of ministry over the years, including more than 40 years of being involved in and leading worship. They also led a housechurch for about 7 years prior to joining us.

They lead worship for the Langport Filling Station most months and also host Encounter Worship sessions which started in during Covid lockdown as a way of bringing worshippers together over Zoom to join in worship and encountering God’s prescence. These sessions have now migrated to in-person events, some of which are hosted at the church.

Within the church they serve us in several areas including worship, prayer, AV and tech support. They became deacons at the end of 2025 and Simon also took on the additional role of trustee in early 2026.

Mark and Sarah Donelan

Mark: I have been at WECC since 2016. When I started, I was still learning about God’s love for me. I have been fed and led by the mentors and friends I have made. I was baptised last summer, which was exhilarating. Now I am serving as property, fabric and Health and Safety Officer.

Sarah: Fifteen years ago, with my late husband and two young sons, I started at WECC. Seasons change, and now I am Deaconess and Secretary. My WECC story testifies to God’s faithfulness. He has been my constant source of peace and stability, and much of that has been thanks to fellow Christians, and the teaching I’ve received from the WECC family. I am encouraged with the direction in which we are currently being led, and feel privileged to be part of our vision to know Jesus and make Him known.
